Coffee with Annie

Mark went for a bike ride this morning……it turned out to be about 50K, and he arrived home exhausted….but that is by the way.

The sun was shining, I quickly finished clearing the kitchen from having friends to dinner last night, took some washing off the line ( left out by mistake yesterday), and settled down to a cup of tea in the garden.

Jess phoned, so we chatted for half an hour, then I saw that Annie had posted on face book, so I left a comment, and before I knew it we were in a face book messaging conversation that left me really wishing we could pop round to each others houses for a quick coffee and a natter.
I made a coffee…imagining I was also making one for Annie, and took it into the garden. I read for half an hour, then weeded for half an hour, then read for half an hour.

All quiet....no screeching jay here at the moment.
A jay has been visiting one of the fir trees that are next to the pool house, and has taken screeching at a plastic owl we have perched in the tree to amuse the grandchildren when they come. S/he clearly believes the owl is real…..and s/he does not like it. Apart from one screeching interlude, the only sounds I could hear were much more melodic bird sounds….a nightingale sings more or less continually behind the house, and I could hear cuckoos from the forest. Some swooping swifts visited, and various finches….gold, green and chaff……popped in for a chat.

Swift sculptures...nearly as beautiful as the real things

It was a lovely morning. It could only have been improved by Annie joining me for that coffee….or Jess popping in…..which is exactly what she’ll be doing in 3 days time.

hands up who wants coffee.......Annie last September.

  1. Why don't you Skype each other and both enjoy a nice big mug of coffee whilst doing so.
Your pool looks really inviting, and I do like the look of your swift sculpture.

  2. Nope - my comment disappeared. I said I'd just been telling my class how we more or less had coffee together this morning and what a brilliant idea it was. (We were discussing the benefits of the internet!) We must do it again very soon - either SKYPE or Facebook. Axxx

  4. A perfect morning, it seems to me, in your lovely garden (Love those Swifts), reading, weeding, and sunshine by the pool. And a special bonus contact with your friend. All lovely, Janice. xx

  5. Hello Janice,

The sculpture of the swifts is delightful. Such movement and elegance, they sit so well in the flower border.

And, how lovely to have been in contact with Annie. You must do it more often since otherwise time flies by and one loses touch. We have never had the courage to turn on the web camera whilst chatting.....too much information!

  6. Ah that was lovely. What would we do without all this technology that gives us immediate contact with those far away from us? Mind you having said that my integral microphone has been out of order for weeks and I really should get a separate one as I am missing Skype chats with my grandsons. Bet you're looking forward to Jess arriving....have a lovely time together xxx

  8. A "virtual" coffee is ever there was one, Janice (and, coincidentally, I'd just poured myself a cup of coffee to sip while reading your post :)

I enjoy the company of birds and yours are certainly ones I would love to hear, but, most of which don't visit here. Our jays can be awfully noisy here and tend to gang up in threes, but, oh, they are so beautiful. Lovely post - and love those swifts!

    1. The birds surrounding our home here are fabulous, the birdsong just goes on all day... and then the nightingales perform all night !

  9. All those birds in your garden...sheer bliss!
Do try a Skype call - but from my own experience shut the door as every passing noise is carried over....

    1. My skyping experience is that things are always a little chaotic, and the understood rules of phone calls...like ending them, don't seem to work ! But that maybe to do with skyping grandchildren who vanish from the screen to go to find something they must show us.

  10. Lovely love-in-a-mist! My Yorkshire garden is soggy and boggy after three days of rain - and very cold too, so I'm very envious.

  11. Your garden looks and sounds idyllic, Janice, and I too love the pool and the swift sculptures. A bloggers' tele-conference is a great idea, but I'd have to get myself sorted out with Skype and/or a Facebook account, neither of which I have as yet.

I can sympathise with your wish to have Annie there in person for coffee. Sometimes a virtual meeting just isn't enough.

    1. It felt very strange for me earlier this week, in that I "popped" down to Spain for an overnight stay in Figueras. I hated the idea that I was in Spain, but not anywhere near Annie. Virtual coffee mornings must be possible though, somehow....I'm not quite sure how a skype group session could happen...but I am assured it is possible ! Jx
