Frivolous projects

There are many things that need to be done around the house ( and garden) in Caunes, before our first official visitor arrives next week. There are  important, and possibly urgent things to be done.....but somehow the less important tasks seem the most attractive .

The paints were sorted out

The large hole in the plaster above the blue mosaic tiles by the pool house, was ignored. This will require a man who knows what he is doing...to fix it.
I decided the blue mosaic tiles needed decorating.

So, the hole in the wall filling, the digging, the rescuing the freeze affected plants, planting the new beds, sorting out the tip of a garage....can all wait. Now I will look around for some other piece of frivolity  with which to fill my time.

  1. Well that looks lovely Janice. And of course all the other things can wait. We have to get our priorities right, and frivolous jobs should always be at the top of the list :-)

    1. I'm not sure lovely is the right word.... I think the grandchildren will like them, and I have had great fun. have a great trip back to England. J.

  2. Love the birds. I have also been getting the house ready for guests , but I'd much rather be hunting for rare wild flowers to photograph

    1. Mmmm....taking photographs around the place, that's a good idea, that could be another displacement activity that appeals to me. J.

  3. Hello Janice:
Oh dear, how well we recognise these 'displacement' activities that one busies oneself with when one really cannot face the countless other less appealing tasks which really do need to be done.

Our theory is that if you complete the project that appeals it will energise you to do the rest....well, that is the theory!!!!

  4. I think your theory worked....I did manage to dig out one of the flower beds today as well. However, tomorrow I really must be focussed on the essential stuff. J.

  5. Ayak said it for me - you just have to get your priorities right and these lovely birds were clearly essential! They look great. (I suspect Jane and Lance are also right too - though if you are able to recognise them as such, then displacement activities are also essential!)
I have only one priority at the moment and that is to get rid of a horrible cold...

    1. Hope you're feeling better... and that the snow has gone. I was horrified to see it with you in Spain.... and then it arrived in th Aude yesterday...not actually in Caunes, but in the Black Mountains just a few miles behind our house !
However... today has been lovely. Take care, Janice xx

  6. What a great project! These birds are so bright and cheerful and welcoming, Janice. I'd say you really do have your priorities in order.

  7. I love the birds! They are so joyful and will bring smiles to many faces... As for priorities -- quelle drag, but at least you've got started and that's the really hard part.

    1. Yes, and today I'll see if I can find a way of fixing the hole in the wall ! Hope all is still well with you.

  8. You could disguise the hole as a bird now, then you wouldn't need a man! We're in rainforest now where the birds really are that colour ..... well almost.

    1. I will have to think about how that could be done.....but it sounds like a plan... Enjoy the rainforest. J x

  10. Gosh, aren't you clever, Janice? That looks lovely. :-) I always tell myself that people are coming to see us and the area and that as long as they are comfortable and well-fed everything will be fine. Our French house still isn't finished, but people keep coming back.....

    1. I dont think "clever" is really the right word.... I had thought of leaving it to the 4 year old grandsons to have a go....I'm pretty certain they would have made just as good a job. I am sure you are right about guests though. Once my first guest has been ( next week) I will be calmer about it.Although when 9 turn up in the middle of May, I may have another panic. J.
